The collective

Most studios solve the capacity problem by hiring, then spend the quiet months paying for people they don't currently need and the busy months stretching them across too much. The client feels both.

We do it differently. Around the studio sits a collective of specialists: designers, writers, developers, photographers, people who are genuinely excellent at one thing. We assemble the right group around each brief rather than fitting every brief to whoever happens to be on the payroll.

It means you get senior people throughout. There's no layer of juniors quietly doing the work while the person you met at the pitch appears at presentations. It also means the team on a travel rebrand looks different to the team on a product interface, which is how it should be and almost never is.

What that means for you

George leads every project from first conversation to handover. That's the constant. Everything else is chosen for the job in front of us.

We take on a limited number of projects at a time. That's a commercial constraint we accept in exchange for doing the work properly, and it's why we occasionally say no.

George

George Jillard is a creative director with over 20 years of experience across strategy, brand and product design. Through G&Co he works directly with clients and alongside agencies, on work that's grounded in commercial thinking rather than taste alone. It isn't just about how it looks, it's about how it performs.

He is also co-founder of Talesmith, a product business built in partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

What we believe

Design should earn its keep. Every decision needs a reason that survives being asked about twice. We're not interested in work that looks impressive in a case study and falls apart the moment a real team has to use it.

We work in the open, in short loops. You see work early and often rather than waiting for a reveal, because reveals are theatre and they waste everyone's time when the direction is wrong.

& Collective

A trusted collective of experts brought together by G&Co to give clients the right team for the brief rather than whoever happens to be free.

Over the past two decades George has worked with these people repeatedly. They're not a directory of freelancers. They're the reason the studio can take on a rebrand and a product build without either being compromised.

Common questions

What does G&Co do?
G&Co is a brand and product design studio. We work on brand identity, website design and build, and digital product, taking projects from strategy through to the thing being live and used.
What does the name G&Co mean?
G is George Jillard, who founded the studio and leads every project. &Co is the collective: a group of specialist designers, writers, developers and photographers assembled around each brief. It's a description of how the studio works rather than a flourish.
How big is G&Co?
The studio is deliberately small at its centre and considerably larger in practice. George leads the work and draws on a collective of specialists sized to the project, so clients get senior people throughout rather than a large team with juniors doing the work.
Where is G&Co based?
Hatton, near Warwick, in Warwickshire, UK. We work with clients across the UK and internationally, including brands based in Monaco and Switzerland.
What sectors does G&Co specialise in?
Experience-led brands, particularly travel, hospitality and lifestyle. We also work with ambitious clients in other sectors who value the same approach.
