Which is why you haven't had to dismiss a banner to read this. It seemed worth explaining rather than leaving you to wonder.

The short version
This site sets no cookies. Not necessary ones, not analytics, not advertising. There's nothing to accept, nothing to reject and no preferences to manage, so there's no banner.
Why there's no banner
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, a website needs your consent before storing anything on your device that isn't strictly necessary. Almost every site you visit needs a banner because almost every site runs analytics or advertising.
We chose not to. It means we can't tell you how many people read this page, which is a real cost we've decided to accept in exchange for not following you around and not making you click a box before you can read anything.
What that means in practice
We don't know who you are, which pages you looked at, where you came from or whether you've been here before. If you fill in the contact form or sign up to the newsletter we'll have the details you typed, and nothing else. That's covered in the privacy policy.
Third parties
Two honest caveats, because "no cookies" is often said less carefully than it should be.
The typeface loads from rsms.me, so your browser makes a request to that server and it can see your IP address. It sets no cookie, but it's still a third-party request and we'd rather it weren't there. We're moving to self-hosted fonts.
Netlify, who host the site, keep standard server logs including IP addresses for security and abuse prevention. That's infrastructure rather than tracking, and it happens on any website you visit.
If this changes
If we ever add analytics or anything else that stores data on your device, we'll update this page and add a proper consent banner before it goes live. Not after.
